2024 was a quantitative vintage here in Montepulciano due to a smaller previous vintage and favourable growing season climate conditions. As much as this was great news after a small 2023, plants can be overwhelmed by too much fruit, leading to non-homogenous and scarce phenolic ripeness. It was therefore essential to cut off a percentage of the production to make sure all of our grapes will be perfectly ripe and therefore keep the quality of the grapes high. Later on in the vintage a 40-day heat wave was followed by some rains. The contrast of the two events made it crucial to waste no time and pick before the rains, which we manage doing successfully. It was like ‘a chess game’ Federico said. ‘It was essential to stay focused and take it day-by-day’. Another vintage, another proof that experience, skills and hard-work is essential in winemaking.

We are overall happy with our harvest and the choices taken. We even had time to experiment new winemaking techniques like layering whole bunched with destemmed bunches, carbonic maceration and much more. New experiences to deepen our understanding of the potential of our wonderful land. We’ll keep you posted!
